DISABILITY & LOSS LEAD TO CREATION OF CAREGIVINGCAFE.COM:  RESOURCES, SUPPORT & TIPS AT CAREGIVERS’ FINGERTIPS

New CaregivingCafe.com Gathers for Family Caregivers Essential Online Resources, Information, Technology & Support to Better Manage All Aspects of Caregiving

Austin, Texas             November 5, 2011

Resources and support gathered while her family cared for her father, and experience gained as her husband became disabled inspired Lynn Greenblatt to create CaregivingCafe.com as a way to share this valuable information with caregivers.  She searches the internet and delivers to caregivers the resources, information, support, services & benefits available from government and private agencies, as well as technologies and connectivity to fellow caregivers to help them more efficiently manage care of both the care recipient and self.  The number of family caregivers in the United States is growing as the population ages, often put into that role not by choice and unprepared.  Because the aging population 65 years old and up is expected to double from 2000 - 2030, going from 35.1 million to 71.5 million, the number of caregivers can be expected to rise.  According to the National Alliance for Caregiving, 65.7 million Americans (29% of the adult US population) were caring for an ill or disabled relative in the last 12 months.  Add to this the fact that about 25% of care recipients suffer from some mental illness or condition such as Alzheimer’s disease, depression or mental confusion; that 85% of them need medications & that almost half needs help taking them; and that about 48% of caregivers are employed full-time [Caregiving in the US, 2004], reducing time allotted specifically to care.  Caregivers need education about the illness or condition, practical ways to ensure that the carees take their medications properly, tools to optimize care, safety and communication using the latest technology, and time to address a multitude of caregiving issues that come with the role as well as time to take care of the caregiver.  Visit CaregivingCafe to find all this and more!

“Having resources in one place would’ve saved hours of searching as we cared for Dad & my husband,” says family caregiver Lynn Greenblatt. “CaregivingCafe.com has checklists, how-to videos, technology & tips to help us care. Its blogs and forums let caregivers talk, stay positive, reduce isolation & take care of themselves.  It’s what I wish we’d had for Dad & my husband!”

CaregivingCafe  http://www.caregivingcafe.com/  provides directories of pertinent useful links to caregiving resources, information, benefits, assistive technology, instruction and support, as well as the means to find fellow caregivers who can support one another.  Having one go-to source of information helps caregivers to more efficiently manage their responsibilities, giving them the confidence and results that come from making educated decisions.
